There are many barriers in place when it comes to accessing abortion care. Some of which include lack of financial means to pay for a procedure, money for a hotel or gas expenses, childcare, time off work, and forced delays and forced waiting periods imposed by anti-abortion politicians. We care for patients and their families from every surrounding state, sometimes traveling 4+ hours away. We aim to ease some of these barriers by financially and practically assisting a person who needs our help to access their abortion care. We fund procedures, travel expenses (i.e. gas, hotels, food), and offer support for other barriers a person faces when seeking care at our clinic in Bellevue, NE. We often collaborate with other national and state funds.

Since our start the Abortion Access Fund, Inc. has raised over $20,500 - all from individual donors.

In 2009 the Bellevue, Nebraska clinic was damaged by an arson fire. That fire, which was believed to have been set by anti-abortion extremists, caused all records prior to 2009 to be lost and destroyed. Therefore, accurately tracking how many people were funded prior to that time is not possible. Below is a chart of our funding provided from 2010- 2016.

Fiscal Year (Jan.-Dec.) Dollars Funded # of Women Funded
2016 $4,444.67 59
2015 $1,745.00 15
2014 $2,005.95 39
2013 $1,267.98 32
2012 $1,702.00 28
2011 $2,237.00 35
2010 $7,567.00 49
"Dr. Carhart, you have my deepest respect and gratitude. Without your courage and compassion, I would not have made it through a most difficult time in my life. You literally saved my life. My fiance thanks you and if my children were old enough to explain this to, they would thank you as well. Together we have five children and through it hasn't been easy, without you it wouldn't "be" at all. I thank the lord every day for helping me find you and for the risked you take every day on behalf of women everywhere. I cannot begin to tell you have grateful we are. I will continue to pray for your never ending courage and also for your safety in practice and also, in law. - meaning I hope that when my girls are grown there are still choices and doctors with courage to defend them.

All of the staff were compassionate, helpful and considerate. The care here was outstanding and eased all of my fears. Thank you to all!" - Anonymous

"I wanted to write and thank you for all of your help during the past few months. The past few months were a roller coaster and I ended up making the most difficult decision of my life. Still, I am grateful we had the choice. We literally could not have done it without you and your willingness to be one of the doctors in the country to perform this procedure at such a late date. I know it was such a complicated situation for you and I am so thankful that you were willing to learn all you could about the options and were closely with us to do the termination. I hope it would be of help to other woman who find themselves in similar circumstances in the future. It is hard to believe that you were willing to put up with such pressure and persecution from so many different sides, all to make sure that woman in this country still have a choice, but you do. And we literally owe you our lives for that, thank you.

Words cannot express how truly thankful I am. You made an impact on me and my family and we will remember that forever." - Anonymous
