We believe that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands is here to help children reach their potential, and through them, transform families, schools and communities.
As the only evidence-based mentoring program in our service region, we provide proven outcomes for youth in our program. National research evaluation by Public/Private Ventures has confirmed that children with a Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple are more likely to stay in school, have improved relationships with their family and peers, and are more likely to avoid risky behaviors than their peers.
A Big Brothers Big Sisters' mentoring relationship is designed to provide youth with a sense of safety and security, emotional support, social skill promotion, and help them with academic, technical, and other skills. The program further seeks to reduce the incidence of antisocial behaviors, and improve participants' self-confidence, academic achievement, and relationships with parents and peers.
