The Lungs4Life Motto is: Educate * Motivate * Donate Our fundraising benefits lung cancer research at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center on the UNMC campus in Omaha. In 2017 we donated $27,500, bringing our three year total to $65,000! ANYONE can get lung cancer, even non-smokers! In 2012, the number of people in America who died of lung cancer equates to the populations of Bellevue, Papillion, LaVista, Ralston, Gretna, Fremont and Norfolk combined! We are motivated! Are you?

In December of 2013, Leah, who was a healthy, married, working, mother of three young children, received the shocking diagnosis of Stage 4 Lung Cancer. She had never smoked a day in her life! The diagnosis was grim: chemo with no guarantee of success.
Fortunately, the oncologist ordered further testing of Leah's biopsy, which brought much needed good news. Leah's lung cancer contained a mutation, a diagnosis that only about 4% of those diagnosed with lung cancer receive. This ALK mutation is relatively new and was first identified in 2007.
Just prior to her diagnosis, a new oral drug for her specific type of lung cancer had been FDA approved. Leah never had to endure chemotherapy, radiation, or have any part of her lungs removed. Thanks to the research and clinical trials that occurred prior to her diagnosis, her journey has been nothing short of miraculous. Since late 2014, Leah has had "No Evidence of Disease". Even so, Doctors anticipate that her cancer will eventually return. There are currently two more oral drugs that have become FDA approved for this type of lung cancer.
The Lungs4Life Foundation was created by Leah's husband in order to actively support lung cancer research and public education! Check out our website: to keep an eye on our activities. Registration for our annual Fairways FORE Airways Golf Scramble is open!
