Camp Hot Shots, Inc. is a not for profit 501(c)3 organization who's mission is to empower youth to manage their diabetes today. My husband, Cory, and I got involved because we have a child who was diagnosed 22 years ago at a very young age. We feel strongly that we need to do something to help type 1 diabetes (T1D) kids today so they can be effective in their own self-care and by bringing these kids together lets them know they are not alone with this disease.
Camp Hot Shots offers much more than learning. Camp provides the opportunity for children to meet others just like them and build life-long friendships. Camp also increases confidence, builds character and self-esteem, fosters relationships with medical professionals and improves self-reliance. All of these are necessary to live a healthy, productive life. It costs $200 for a child to attend camp but cost our organization almost double that figure. We have never turned down a camper or family because they could not pay the registration fee. Camper scholarships are available.
Our medical, dietary and counselor staff is all volunteer. Many of the campers become counselors at the age of 16. These counselors stay engaged in camp activities into their 20's. Coming camp is like a a family reunion!
Mike-Dawn - Thank you so much for providing this camp for kiddos with type 1. Our daughter Kassidy, had a blast and can't wait until next year!
Gabby -THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all the AMAZING volunteers!! This mom is so appreciative that she has 3 days to "check out". I know my little person is 1) having a BLAST and 2) is in the safest place he could be!!! Can't wait for next year and neither can he. He is already making plans for next year. PS Thanks Mack Greder (counselor).
Adam - Our daughter Abi has been a camper since she was diagnosed at age 7. She is now 12 and is too old to attend Camp Hot Shots. She is counting down the years until she can come back as a counselor. As her parents, we cannot express enough how much Camp Hot Shots has meant to our family. It has been a place Abi can go for the past 5 years where she feels just like everyone else… doesn't have to stand out as a kid who needs extra help because of diabetes. Abi absolutely loves your camp and so do we! Thank you staff for all you have done for our daughter. WE ARE MISSING YOU THIS YEAR!!!
