We believe that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands is here to help children reach their potential, and through them, transform families, schools and communities.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands provides long-term mentoring to boys and girls ages 7 - 18 years of age, living in seven counties surrounding the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area. We are a community-based mentoring program focused on serving youth from single or non-parent homes, youth in poverty, foster care or out of home placement, or youth with a parent incarcerated.

As the only evidence-based mentoring program in our service region, we provide proven outcomes for youth in our program. National research evaluation by Public/Private Ventures has confirmed that children with a Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple are more likely to stay in school, have improved relationships with their family and peers, and are more likely to avoid risky behaviors than their peers.

A Big Brothers Big Sisters' mentoring relationship is designed to provide youth with a sense of safety and security, emotional support, social skill promotion, and help them with academic, technical, and other skills. The program further seeks to reduce the incidence of antisocial behaviors, and improve participants' self-confidence, academic achievement, and relationships with parents and peers.
"If I'd never met John (not his real name), my life would be dramatically different. He is a big influence, and I see him as an actual big brother. If it weren't for him I wouldn't have accomplished any of the things that I have. I wouldn't be walking across the stage to graduate on time. I honestly could see myself as a dropout if he hadn't gotten involved. I was bad before he came and he helped me - a lot. He is a really big influence and this was a life-changing experience."

"I am proud of myself and the struggles I have overcome thanks to his help and I will never forget him or Big Brothers Big Sisters. Somewhere another kid needs this experience and hopefully he'll see what I have seen in the organization and have as much fun with this life-changing experience as I've had thanks to John."
